Linking element e (after nouns)

The linking element e is relatively rare.

The linking element e is used only after nouns that form the plural with e:
Getränkeautomat
Tagebuch
Schweinefleisch
hundemüde

Nouns taking an umlaut in the plural are also umlauted before the linking element e:

Früchteschale
Gästezimmer
Städtebau
kräftezehrend

Consequently, the combination of the first noun and the linking element e always corresponds to the plural form of the first noun.

Exceptions with Maus/Mäuse: Mauseloch, Mausefalle (also Mäusefalle)

e is used in:  Noun+e+Noun
Noun+e+Adjective
Noun-to-adjective suffixation
