The search includes specialized dictionaries
The specialized dictionaries for German are based on Canoo's Morphological Dictionary for German which contains more than 250,000 entries and recognises approximately 3 Million word forms.

Since most of these external sources are constantly growing and changing it is not possible to establish permanent links between entries. That is why we cannot guarantee that every query will result in a hit. It is also possible that a result entry will not match exactly the canoo.net query entry. However, in most cases the results will be satisfactory.
Search All DictionariesA search for "All" searches all Canoo-dictionaries, as well as selected areas of grammar in Canoo.net. See Instructions.
Unknown Words
Using our Unknown Word products, it is possible to analyse words, that are not listed in any of our dictionaries (for example Beamtenversicherungskasse or Lieblingstier). An "Unknown Word" message is displayed, whenever it is not possible to analyse the word at all.
Wildcard Search
For more complex requests you can use so-called wild cards.
- The * represents any number of any character, including no characters.
It can only be used in combination with at least three characters. In order to see all entries in the data base that start with the same characters, combine the characters with the wild card: e.g. if you enter Gel*, the search will return the entries Gel, Gelabber, gelabt, etc. The search *foto* will yield the search result abfotografieren, Aerofotografie, Aerofotogrammetrie etc.
- The ? represents any single character.
For example, the search ?ilde will return the entries Gilde, milde, Tilde, etc.
The wildcard search is not case sensitive.
